DIMAPUR, JULY 31 (MExN): The Karate Team of the Assam Rifles returned to ARTC & S, Shokhuvi, Nagaland after winning the third International Open Karate Championship (senior category) held at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata on July 29 and 30. A press note informed that the team bagged four Gold and three Bronze medals in the championship and emerged as overall champions. Iran was declared the Runners up. In all, 34 teams representing 20 states teams, 7 Forces teams and 7 international teams participated in the event. The services team had also sent their representatives for the Competition. Irene Lalchhahimi (Indl KATA), Chavan Dattatray (Indl KATA), Sandeep Kumar (below 67 kg), Chandan Mochari (Below 75 kg) won Gold Medal, H Geetchandra (below 55 kg), Chavan Pavan (Below 84 kg) and Ajesh T M (above 84 kg) won Bronze Medals. The Assam Rifles team was led by manager cum coach L/Hav Satendra.
