Dimapur, April 15 (MExN): Taking an initiative towards preserving environment, the troops of Assam Rifle in collaboration with KSON organised a afforestation drive with the students of Christian School, Ahthibung on April 13. 80 students of class 8, 9 & 10 participated in the event which also featured a seminar and plantation of trees, KSON Speaker Paotinsei Khongsai informed in a press note.
The seminar highlighted the impact of deforestation on environment, it said adding that a total of 100 trees, 20 within the school premises, were planted together by school students, KSO and AR afterwards. School students were also urged to contribute towards the drive by nurturing and watering the trees which they planted during the event, it added.
During the event, troops of AR and student leaders also assured their aggressive approach towards afforestation drive to achieve its mission of 'Greener Ahthibung'.
The drive would continued till the end of monsoon season and the joint team of AR and KSON aims to plant more trees at Ahthibung and surrounding villages, the press note added. The plan of afforestation was conceived with the intention of not only incorporating other schools and organizations in town or plant trees, but to spread awareness among the youth and adults about the negative impact of deforestation on the environment, it added.
