Dimapur, June 20 (MExN): The 28 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) carried out a joint counseling with District authorities on Drug abuse/Immunisation at the Chief Medical Officer’s office, Wokha on June 20.
The unit Senior Medical Officer and Regimental Medical Officer attended the counseling along with the Deputy Chief Medical Officer and representatives from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and district health officials, a defence press release stated.
Meanwhile, the 28 Assam Rifles also organized a lecture on Drug Abuse at Don Bosco School, Tseminyu on June 15. The lecture was organised to provide general awareness to students and teachers on the ill effects of drugs, an AR press note informed.
During the lecture, Deputy Commandant MN Khama highlighted the menace and consequences of drug abuse in Nagaland especially amongst the youth and adolescents. A movie to highlight the same was also screened for benefit of the children.
All together 44 girls, 27 boys and 8 teachers of Don Bosco School, Tseminyu attended the programme.
Essay competition
The 41 Assam Rifles organised an Essay writing competition on the theme ‘Drug Free Nagaland’ at Government High School, Chumukedima Village on June 19.
The aim of the event was to spread awareness about drug abuse and to identify and honour the skills of budding talents. Students from various age groups participated enthusiastically in the competition and came out with interesting essays.
Thaknyei Konyak of 6th Standard won the prize for Overall Best Essay, a separate defence press release informed.
