Officials with winners of the Inter College Debate Competition held at Assam Rifles Camp in Kohima on April 18.

Kohima, April 18 (MExN): The Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) organised an Inter College Debate Competition on the topic ‘Disparate Naga Tribal Identities are Antithesis to Naga Unity, and thus, a hindrance in social upliftment and economic development of Nagaland.’
An update from the PRO, HQ IGAR (N) informed that nine colleges participated in the debate held at Assam Rifles Camp in Kohima on April 18.
The panel of five judges comprised of Brig Ved Beniwal, Deputy Inspector General of IGAR (North), Dr Mimi Kevichusa Ezung, Rita Krocha, Okenjeet Sandham and H Chishi. Brigadier Ved Beniwal was the Chairperson of the panel.
Opening remarks was given by Brigadier Herjinder Singh in which he exhorted the students to speak their mind in an unbiased manner and to also accept the diversity of opinion.
Chief Guest, Major General Vikas Lakhera, Sena Medal, IGAR (North) addressed the audience and motivated the audience to think beyond individual identities.
Based on the decision of the jury, in individual category, the first prize was won by Kenlumle of St Joseph’s College, second prize was bagged by Ricky Das of Modern College and third prize was won by Kitokali Yeptho of Sazolie College. Sinsi Khing of St Joseph’s College and Konnyei Konyak of Model Christian were awarded consolation prizes for their appreciable performances.
In the positions of Colleges, St Joseph’s College, Sazolie College, Model Christian College won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions respectively.
AR has planned to conduct this event every year and has instituted a rolling shield for the same.
