
Dimapur, August 14 (MExN): Assam Rifles battalions under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) carried out various activities in Nagaland recently.
3 (Naga Hills) Battalion Assam Rifles in collaboration with Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima and Red Ribbon Club organized HIV screening test at Sazolie College, Jotsoma on August 9. Resource persons, staff members and 250 students of Sazolie College attended the screening test, where youth were educated on AIDS and HIV, informed a release from Lt Col Amitabh Sharma, PRO, HQ IGAR (North). Potential benefits of timely testing for HIV, enhanced awareness about the seriousness of the disease, and timely medical management to minimize the risk of spreading the virus to others were emphasized upon, it added.
In Tuensang, 40 Assam Rifles provided assistance to a cancer patient by donating blood on August 10. A separate release from PRO, HQ IGAR (N) said that till date, the unit has donated more than 200 units of blood to blood bank and emergency cases in Tuensang.
Lectures in educational institutes
32 Assam Rifles conducted an awareness lecture on career in defence at JN Aier College, Dimapur on August 10. The lecture, attended by around 150 youth, highlighted important criteria, documentation, and joining procedure.
3 (Naga Hills) Battalion Assam Rifles conducted a lecture on the topic ‘India as an emerging super power’ at Government High School Tasazhu, Jotsoma on August 10. A total of 60 students attended the lecture, which followed by an interactive session on the modernization and development of the Indian Army.
Meanwhile, 5 Assam Rifles conducted a lecture at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Chare on the theme ‘Drug Free Nagaland’ on August 11. The lecture aimed to sensitize the youth on various kinds of drugs, their harmfulness and abuses.
36 Assam Rifles also conducted awareness programme on ‘Drug Free Nagaland’ at Jalukie Town on August 10. Lt Col Amitabh informed in a release that a documentary movie was screened followed by lecture cum interactive session on the ill effects and preventive measures of drug abuse. It was attended by 65 youths from Jalukie and neighbouring villages.
Weapons display
A weapon display was organised by 15 Assam Rifles in Shamator on August 10. Attended by 110 students and school staff from Govt Higher Secondary School, Shamator Town, various weapons and new generation equipments which are being used by the Assam Rifles were displayed at the event.
22 and 28 Assam Rifles also organized weapons display at Govt Higher Secondary School, Phek and Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha respectively with an aim to motivate youth to join armed forces on August 11.
85 students from Government Higher Secondary School and St Xavier School, Jalukie also witnessed a weapons display organized by 36 Assam Rifles in Jalukie on August 12.
Competitions
40 Assam Rifles conducted painting competition for students of St John’s Higher Secondary School in Tuensang on August 10. Themes for the competition were HIV & AIDS Free Nagaland and National Integration. The Commandant and 2IC of 40 Assam Rifles also interacted with the senior students of Class XI & XII and apprised them of the role of youth towards national integration and development.
9 Assam Rifles organized drawing and poster making competition for students of TMT Higher Secondary School, Pfutsero on August 12. The aim of the competition was to inculcate competitive spirit and bring out hidden talent among the students, said a press release from PRO, HQ IGAR. 55 students from classes V to X participated in the event and created imaginative paintings on the theme ‘Independence of India’.
41 Assam Rifles organized dancing, singing and mimicry competitions for students of Molvom and Bungsang villages at Community Hall, Molvom, Dimapur district on August 12. It was followed by Taekwondo and weapons display. The event was attended by 520 locals and students of Government Hr Sec School, Government Middle School, Government Primary School & Christian School, Molvom.
Meanwhile, 44 Assam Rifles organized Talent Hunt Competition at New Chungtia, Mokokchung district on August 11. 35 participants within the age group of 10-18 years exhibited their talent in solo singing, dancing and group singing. Prizes were distributed to the participants.
