
Kohima, April 21 (MExN): Chieswema battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted an awareness rally on ‘HIV/ AIDS Free Nagaland’ in Kohima on April 18.
The rally was conducted with an aim to create awareness amongst the youth on the ill effects of HIV & AIDS, precautionary measures, and to motivate them to make the state of Nagaland free from HIV & AIDS, stated a press release from HQ IGAR (N).
Held with the theme ‘Lets Free Nagaland from HIV and AIDS’ in coordination with District AIDS Prevention Control Unit (DAPCU), Kohima, the rally commenced at Chieswema Garrison of 9 Assam Rifles and passed through IG Stadium, High School Junction, Phulbari Chowk till Police HQ and returned along the same route culminating at Chiephobozou village.
After the rally, a seminar on the topic was conducted. Avio Naleo, District Supervisor, DAPCU Kohima highlighted the basic cause of HIV, its route of transmission, prevention, treatment, facilities provided through service delivery points in the district and emphasized on building up coordination for treatment services, the release said.
The programme was attended by 85 participants, including GBs, village council chairmen, youth and women of Chiephobozou, Chiechema and Model Village. It concluded with a medical camp conducted by the medical staff of Chieswema battalion.
Dimapur: Dimapur Battalion of Assam Rifles organized a free medical camp and health check up at Pimla village on April 18. Organized with an aim to spread awareness about various lifestyle diseases and provide primary medical facility to the villagers, 96 villagers were examined by the battalion medical officer during the camp. Free medicines were also distributed on requirement basis, stated another press release from Assam Rifles. The camp concluded with an informal interaction between locals and Assam Rifles troops.
Meluri: AR battalion reportedly rescued an injured person from an accident site near Akhegwo village in Meluri sub-division on April 17. According to a press release from HQ IGAR (N), a biker was hit by a speeding Gypsy. Assam Rifles troops immediately rushed to the accident site and evacuated the injured person named Visatho (21), it added. He was taken to unit MI Room in Akhegwo and administered first aid. The victim was further referred to Kohima Civil Hospital for further treatment, the release said.
