AR seizes contraband worth Rs 5 crore

Dimapur, July 4 (MExN): The Assam Rifles has seized illegal contraband items worth around Rs 5 crore and arrested one person from general area of Purana Bazar, Dimapur on July 3, an official release informed. 


The seizure was made after the AR troops and police launched an operation in the area based on “on specific intelligence regarding consignment of contraband,” the release said.


The recoveries from the seizure included “530 bags of areca nuts, 1265 bags of dates, 40 bags of black pepper and 150 bags of Badi Elaichi amounting Rs 5 crore,” it said. One person identified as Bablu Kumar (25 yrs), a resident of Molapur village, Purbi Champaran (Motihari) Dist, Bihar was arrested along with the goods, it added. 


He was handed over to Superintendent of Anti Smuggling Customs Prevention Division, Dimapur for further investigation along with the recovered items, the release said.
