Dimapur, January 31 (MExN): Dimapur battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) apprehended five NSCN (R) cadres with illegal arms and rescued a kidnapped person from them on January 30 in Ayomiti village area, according to a press release from Lt Col Amitabh Sharma, PRO, HQ IGAR (North).
The Assam Rifles troops had established a mobile check post along with police representative based on a specific input about movement of armed cadres along with a kidnapped person on NH-29, the release said.
During the search of the suspected vehicle, Bolero without registration number, AR troops apprehended the five NSCN (R) cadres with illegal arms and rescued the kidnapped individual, it added.
The apprehended cadres have been identified as Lieut Col Khoto, Major Rikhum, Major Athsong Chang, Captain John Pomei, and Corporal Shitmong. The rescued individual was identified as Tokhuvi Avomi.
The recoveries from the apprehended cadres included two .22 mm pistol, 2 magazine, five .22 rounds, Indian currency in cash worth Rs. 17,140, three mobile phones and one Bolero vehicle, the PRO said.
The apprehended persons and the rescued individual along with the recovered items were handed over to East Police Station, Dimapur for further investigation, the release added.
