AR troops apprehend three

Dimapur, February 1 (MExN): Assam Rifles troops under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) reportedly apprehended three persons on charges of extortion in two separate incidents on January 31.  

Medziphema battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended one person identified as Meyitipa Yaden Ao, (27) during an operation launched along with a police representative based on specific input regarding extortion activity by UG cadres in Chumukedima Town on January 31, stated a press release from Lt Col Amitabh Sharma, PRO, HQ IGAR (N).  

The items recovered from the individual included Indian currency of Rs 1250/-, two mobile phone batteries, one mobile phone (Samsung), one pouch with daily utility items, one appointment order of NNC (NA), and one register containing details of tax collected, the release alleged. “The apprehended revealed that he had been actively carrying out extortion in the area,” it added.  

He along with the recovered items was handed over to Chumukedima Police Station for further investigation, according to the release.  

In another incident, Dimapur battalion apprehended two NNC cadres, including one Kilonser, along with “incriminating documents” at DC Chowk area in Dimapur Town on January 31, the PRO informed in a separate press release. The operation was launched along with police representative based on specific information about NNC cadres doing extortion activity, it said.  

A meeting notice of NNC/NPGN, four office seals in the name of NNC/NPGN, two note pads, one Maruti 800 (white colour, Regd No NL 02 C 1451) with key and cash amount of Rs. 2320/- were also recovered from the two identified as Kilonser Mar Longkumar (44) and Moatumsu Jamir (52), it was informed.  

The PRO said that the apprehended persons along with the recovered items were handed over to East Police Station Dimapur for further investigation.
