NPF Minority honours Binita Jigdung
Dimapur, March 10 (MExN): NPF Minority Wing honoured Binita Jigdung for her outstanding contribution towards society on International Women’s Day in Dimapur. Binita Jigdung is a renowned social worker from Kachari community and founder of Sibrai Temple of Hazadisa, Dhansiripar, informed a press release from Mahendra Thousen, Working President, NPF Minority Wing (Central).
The International Women’s Day programme was organized by NPF Minority Wing under the leadership of its President Bishnu Bhattacharjee at The Dinners conference hall in Dimapur on March 8. Others who attended the programme were Ramesh Hasnu, President, Kachari Tribal Council Nagaland, Omprakash Sethi, President, Marwari community, Kumar Subba, President, Dimapur Gorkha Community, Joginder Gupta, General Secretary, Bhojpuri Samaj, Abdul Basit from Muslim Community, Sanjay Dey from Bengali Community, and Roshan Tamang, VP of NPF Minority Wing, Dimapur division.
‘Swachh Shakti Saptah’ in Peren
Dimapur, March 9 (MExN): A weeklong programme of activities to highlight the role of women in Swachh Bharat Mission and to recognize their leadership was held from March 1-8 in Jalukie, Peren district.
The ‘Swachh Shakti Saptah’ programme was launched at PHED, Peren, while it culminated with International Women's Day celebration at the Jalukie Town Women Welfare Organization's conference hall on March 8.
Akangna Iheilung, Advisor JTWWO, who was the main speaker at the closing programme, dealt with the subject of hygiene and sanitation, and stressed that action is more important than words. She also emphasised it was time for women to be bold and make changes for the welfare of the whole society.
Kinri, a teacher from Mungleu Valley School gave a detailed speech on Women Empowerment while Atwa Meru, President JTWWO said the vote of thanks.
Short speeches on their experiences towards cleanliness were given by women leaders from Mhainamtsi village, Jalukie B village, Samziuram village and Jalukie town.
A painting competition for girl students, themed "Vision and Dream of a Clean Village" as well as an awareness campaign on Menstrual Cycle were also organized at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Jalukie.
Social work and installations of dustbins were carried out by the women folk of Samziuram Village B block.
Women representatives from non-ODF villages under Peren district also went for an exposure tour to Razaphe village in Dimapur, an Open Defecation Free (ODF) declared village, where they interacted with the women and discussed about how they had achieved the ODF status. A press note informed that the weeklong programme was organized by DWSM, PHED, Peren and sponsored by Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, PHED Kohima, Nagaland.
