Are Nagas spending too much time and money on rock concerts, fashion shows and entertainment?

Some of those who voted  YES had this to say:
•    Value of money is still unknown
•    How we entertain ourselves is a personal issue but when our form of entertainment has affect on the larger society, than it is no more private it becomes public. The kind of programs that we are having has very little societal value. If we are to promote concerts, shows and other forms of entertainment it must be done well, should be result oriented and cost productive.
•    This is a difficult poll question because it is questioning each and every one of us. On one hand people have no other outlet for entertainment, it is either a moodu joint or to be creative and organize other forms of entertainment. On the other hand, the number of people living in poverty is so high, that some forms of entertainments are just to extravagant. But this is Naga society. There is the ultra rich and the super poor. It was not always like this. This trend is more recent. The government by declaring Nagaland the land of festivals is not forced to not just spend lavish money on festivals but they are also forced to create and support entertainment related activities to create that image of the land of festivals. This is now coming back to haunt the people. The gross spending of public money by the govt on entertainment is not right and it is misleading. Nagaland has not reached that level yet. Public money must be spend for public.
•    Nagaland ,land of festivals...and thats it. Its the only thing. Otherwise what do we have.  Such irony, nagas do not realise that we r wasting tym n money on such festivals.
•    Yes we are spending too much on show business who are we trying to fool?
•    Especially the young are spending too much time in concerts, entertainment etc. Just because you are a music lover, it does not meant that you have to give all your time, energy and money on concerts, fashion, entertainment etc. There is nothing wrong in being passionate about concerts/fashion but one has to keep the balance. Keep one's PRIORITY in check. Read book, attend/conduct workshops, seminars etc which will prove beneficial in the long run. The problem has been further compounded by the inclusion of concerts/fashions in every awareness campaign programmes/festivals with the excuse of Reaching the Youth!!!.Let us keep our priorities right. If we concentrate too much of our effort in concert/entertainment now, in future we might find ourselves lacking in many areas of life where concerts/fashion plays little role.
•    Its always good to nurture youths in the field of music and fashion bt the govt.  has to do othr thngs side by side.
•    Delhi is not granting funds to organise all these Melas n festivals..whats the use of all these hulla-bullas if they all end in a drain. Nagas will oneday beg to live.
•    Too mach tym on useless things and not worried bout the potholes in dimapur n kohima roads..Dimapur holds the world record for being the first n the only place having pot-holes in a fly-over.
•    Are these ministers and officials blind?  Dont they see so much apathy esp the roads?  Why do they have to spend so much organising a concert, fashion shows, etc etc where they r the chief guest instead of concentrating on developments.
•    well, what other things can the nagas do? nothing. we only know how to imitate others, trying to act cool without really knowing the reason why. the western countries had tried, developed, used, spend all their resources developing themselves and has got nothing sort of entertainment to do. so they create reality shows, and we nagas in all our ignorance embrace it to hide the backwardness, underdevelopment, corruption etc to show the world that we are a developed society. what a sham! spend the money for the maintenance of roads atleast. lets not be like a beggar who think he is king without knowing the stark reality of our present scenario.
•    We should know the limits..These entertainments are becoming a daily affair. We r not westernized ppl where we dont have much to do then sit back n enjoy life. We need to realise that we r still a generation just one level above APE MAN. We were wearing nothing 60-70 yrs back....We cannot be too advanced in all these unnecessary things. We are spending funds meant for developments.
•    Yes. (not good)The Govt is trying to lure people with attractive program like road show, fashion show, concert but only handful people get benefit from such scheme because these are talent factor. All the people are not talented, in my view, the Govt should invest in training oriented, job guaranteed so that the common people gets benefited.
•    Concert for peace, fashion show for re-conciliation etc, etc. It is sheer waste of tax-payers money. And the after- effects of these show are unwanted pregnancies and AIDS.
•    What is happening to our society. We have nothing for our income..if Delhi stops funding we are begging in the streets for sure. Yet we know only of spending in all these unnecessary functions. Will it bring revenues? Nagas are good spenders and not good-savers. In the long run, nagas will be literally smoked.
•    yes i believe so. the income also rises during these times, people go shopping for it, spends too much for it. nd most of all, we are all into it, even the government is very concerned about these things. they are spending, instead we should start developing ourselves. primitive people should learn how to be patient. rock and fashion can wait, the state's development should be the priority.
•    Yes! Naga's are spending too much money in rock concert's and fashion's show as for my opinion. Instead of this better to spend the money in sum charity or orphanage for the bright feature of youngsters who only dreams of school in Nagaland.
•    Yes, too much festivals, fashion shows and we have lost our work culture and we resort to dirty businesses.
•    What good will these melas and concerts etc etc bring to our naga youths. Its just another way to commit sins..Boys n girls getting drunk and facing the truth after 9 months.
•    What is the real purpose of so much entertainment? The Govt is fooling the ppl with some good tyms n hiding their real transgressions.
•    The present Govt is doing all these to encourage youths, but its having a negative feedback. We nagas are not good in doing things with honest mind. We tend to 4get the real purpose of these activities and do things that is going to destroy them in the long run.
•    D talks of such events goes on tro out d year but neglect other developmental activities!!Need to have a look on d road condition so tat all these events can be carried out in ease!!
•    Come December and kohima is full of festivals..Actually this is having a negative feedback to our society. Not only is this disturbing the studies as exams are in Feb. but it is conducive to commit adultery.
•    Yes indeed. Nagas are spending a lot on rock concerts, fashion shows and entertainment when on the other side people are struggling hard to make both ends meet and some dying of starvation. The events will come and be forgotten but brining a smile and happiness to an underprivileged person leaves a lasting impression.
•    If one needs to analyze from an investment return point of view, I would say it's a big YES..the productivity output quotient is minimal at the end of the day!
•    Yes too much money is being spent on these trifle matters
•    Public funds spent on 'rock concerts, fashion shows and entertainment' smacks of hasty decisions and superficial fixes, mere 'pretty' fication (if that's a word) rather then astute structural changes that would allow Nagaland to be a model for the rest of the world. The government should instead be concentrating on 'good governance', a desired objective of a nation/state’s political development. Good governance is anti-corruption wherein authority and its institutions are accountable, effective and efficient, participatory, transparent, responsive, consensus-oriented, and equitable (major characteristics as outlined by the United Nations)
Anything less, and the Millennium Development Goals
Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4: Reduce child mortality rates
Goal 5: Improve maternal health
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
Goal 8: Develop a global partnership for development
Less superficial fixes, more sustainable changes are the need of the hour.)
remain, but a distant impossibility!! Just in case you're still wondering, I vote yes to this post!!
Young people, take charge
Let us take charge and decide at large
To initiate exposition of our opinions and possess our dominions
Let us dismiss hypocrisy and enhance democracy
By changing the process to measure our country’s progress
Let us eliminate apathy and reinforce empathy
By elevating maturity and alleviate inferiority
Let us expand our sights and express our rights
By opposing indifferences to settle our differences
Let us own propriety to improve society
By becoming moral as servants for all
Let us become optimistic to clarify the politic
And abolish violence by breaking the silence
We are the catalystic force ‘so’ without remorse
Let’s set the course and endorse

•    since we nagas imitate westerns way of lifestyle and the way they live so nagas spent their precious time, money, fashion etc
•    If the question is put regards government spending too much money on any forms of entertainment (concerts and fashion shows minus any platform for writers, yes, did/do the govt organised/organises any special event for writers like that the ... concerts and fashion shows every now and then? ), i say its a Yes, Yes and Yes. And regards the public spending, its their personal choices, yet i wont encourage it unless we can expect some very productive outcome.
•    Need to encourage games and sports..Give marks for sports in schools and colleges.
•    Definitely yes!! Come dEcember and Kohima comes alive with all those festivals n Rock-concerts. These r places ppl fool around n commit crime n sins..All the while some non locals are smiling away to the banks..All our money is spent on all the avoidable commodities. All the nagas know is spent..no matter he has a source of income or not. Poor parents..children can b menacing in these tyms.
•    If ppl wants fun..why do it at the expense of state-exchequer? It shudnt have any impact on states economy. Then ppl will have no complains, but all these activities are done with our funds meant for developments.
•    Nagas are being influenced by korean movies, serials, American fashions, rock stars of the world. If u see ,these ppl come from the most developed countries. They have got everything so sufficient that they do all these recreational activities to keep them busy. Nagas have not reached their level. We are just above the PIGS..So why copy cat their lifestyles? Nagas will not be employed by them tio be their Kanchas n Minis..
•    Solidarity Concert for Thailand on 16th Nov.2011. Is another joke ? Don't we have enough problems at home. We are totally dependent on the central Govt.for all needs and instead of helping our Eastern blood lines, we are diverting scare resources to a developed country. After all, we have no words for honchos with high IQ.

Some of those who voted NO  had this to say:
•    We see thousand youths in rock concerts n fashion shows, but u can count the youth on a Sunday devotional service. Is this the benefit of having to attend the previous night concerts???? Probably too drunk to know anything.
•    With a fashion and beauty loving CM with music and festival loving ministers, cant help but watch in awe. Next time let us elect development and anti-corruption loving people to power. The power to change Nagaland is in our hand, people. Do you know what democracy means? When you point 1 finger at others, your other fingers are pointing at you. That means you have more power to bring changes in our society.
•    If we are far-sighted and discerning and if we truly care to work towards a bright future for the Nagas, rock music should have no place in our society. There are serious moral, emotional, spiritual, educational and psychological consequences as a result of our involvement in pop/rock music. Just looking at the decaying culture of the West should send out a strong signal that corrupt art destroys the home, the educational system and society in general more powerfully than any other agent. Considering where we are today, Nagas should be investing resources on building educational institutions with strong math and science programs as well as the study of serious art music. Finally, I am afraid someone is making big money at the expense of the future of our youth. Why do we have so many woes in our society today? Well, just look at what we have encouraged. Let us think as sane individuals. Why knock rock? Why not, when the consequences are insurmountable?
•    The need of the hour is more than entertainment. If such projects have positive outcomes and generate income, jobs, opportunities etc, it would be balanced but at this rate, the funds are being used to amuse ourselves to death. We need entertainment as much as we need development in all fields.
•    But if there are no rock shows, fashion shows and entertainment, life would be quite dull indeed!
•    Nagas are fun loving peoples, N yes, most of da Naga adults spend their money lavishly on such entertainments...spending double of their income..(sad bt true).
•    i think things are getting little crazy...cz the govt loves fun...
•    All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Conversely, all play and no work makes Jack a mere toy. Let's earn the right to party hard by working hard.
•    i think entertainment in Nagaland is Mudu Ghors.since there r no modern entertainment facilities to b entertained....
•    everyone will have their own opinion on this and without meaning to be rude or obnoxious i'd say the people who agrees to this are either narrow minded or just plain dumb. But first thing first, who exactly do you mean when you say "are nagas spending too much"???since i'm not sure which group you mean let me explain myself by asking questions to myself..... an individual wold spend about 200-300 rupees to watch a show, is that too taxing for a fan or a music lover to have a decent time spent listening to music they love?? are the bands/ musicians over paid??? a local band or a local artist will charge to about 30-40 thousand rupees for a show depending on the organizers/sponsors. have you ever thought of how many shows a band/ artist gets in a month????? a show in every three months and they are paid 40 thousand and i ask you again, is that too much???? it is about time we gave our musicians and singers credit which is over due. the same goes for the people in fashion and entertainment. if the Government can spend hundreds of crores per year on works which are executed only on papers i think the share of money that goes into rock shows, fashion shows and entertainment is anything but "not too much time and money" rather i'd say its a "CUTE" share. PS: no offence to anybody,:)
•    Actually we still need more ENTERTAINMENTS in our state so that people can divert their minds from CORRUPTIONS (Political/Social) :) Appreciate the effort of various ORG. for bringing Shows in our cities. But hate to see Govt. funded SHOWS without quality output... We see's lots of sponsors in an events but the events are not properly organised and run just for the sake of the MONEY. We have many talented artiste/designers but they are limited only within the state with less exposure to outside world. Honestly we have many WELL KNOWN NAGA DESIGNERS,MUSICIAN,WRITERS,PRODUCERS across the globe but they are not featured or recognized in the state .. I feel that the STATE should bring those TALENTED people to our HOME STATE and organize a BIG shows with the tickets selling at subsidize rate so that every common man can SEE their work and get an inspiration from them... rather than CHOTA MOTA shows with no gain for the VIEWERS !!!
•    where is the govt spending on education, health, water and electricity.....! its a gimmick to woo the middle class of naga society.....! fashions, concerts and road shows will nt lead to any where. there is no coubt that cultural capital is maintained in some sense but most of these are a compilation of western notion of hegemony of dismantling the cultural distortion of grassroots community.
•    Set our priorities right. Rock concerts, fashion shows and entertainment should come as flowering of our development. But when our infrastructure is not developed, when over seventy per cent of all our food stuffs come from outside and when... we spend soo much time and money on entertaining ourselves we must have gone wrong somewhere and the end result will be we will continue to be poor and go with a begging bowl to New Delhi for more funds. What a shame!
