Are you free from the law?

I perceived that if a Christian doesn’t violate any of the Ten Commandments of God, he is free from the Law, but he violates one of the Ten Commandments he is under the Law or bound by the Law.

About free from the Law, St. Paul explained by giving an example of a woman, saying; “For the married woman is bound by the law to her husband while he is living: but if her husband dies, she is released from the law concerning the husband. If her husband is living she joined another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress though she joined to another man. Brethren, you also made to die to the Law through the body of Christ so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead”. (Roman 7: 2-4). But if you are led by the Holy Spirit you are not under the Law. (Galatians 5:18).

The Wunpawng Christian Church (Union Christian Church) has five prayer Teams to have the family prayer meeting every Friday. I am from the Elijah Team. When we have a prayer meeting on the last Friday, Sept. 20, a Reverend emphasized about Roman Chapter 7 and said; Jesus died for our sins, and the Christians who believe in Christ are free from the Law.

But I raised the question: many Christians are still committing sins, how then can we say who believes Jesus Christ is free from the Law? For example, in our Nagaland corruption is in the highest, not only that but also committing money extortion, deceiving, telling lies, false accusation, and even committing killings. Who are committing such sins are all Christians. Maybe they think “A man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus” according to Galatians 2:16). What has gone wrong, is the question of the Nagas now, but none of them finds the answer.

In reply, Reverend said, he who is committing sins, he is not a believer of Jesus Christ, but he is pretending as a believer. If he truly believes in Jesus Christ he won’t commit sins again, he will be free from the Law. The Ten Commandments are to define our sins, but not for the salvation. If Ten Commandments is for the salvation, Jesus Christ need not come to the world for the salvation of mankind. We are not justified by following the Law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. Before the Christ Era, people tried to follow the Law to be righteous, but now we should follow the Law to have abundant of God’s grace. We are following the Law doesn’t mean that we are under the Law, but if we commit sins or we violate the Law, we are under the Law.
