Army Chief Gen Naravane in Nagaland, meets Governor, CM

KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 24 (MExN): Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Manoj Mukund Naravane, who is on a three-day visit to Nagaland, today had seperate meetings with Nagaland Governor, RN Ravi and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to discuss the prevailing security situation in the State. 

During the meetings, he assured the wholehearted support of the Army and Assam Rifles in maintaining peace and tranquillity in the State and ensuring security along the Indo-Myanmar border, an offical release inforrmed. 

Earlier in the day, the COAS visited the various Army and Assam Rifles Headquarters in Nagaland and Manipur to make a firsthand assessment of the ground situation, the press release from the PIB (Defence Wing) informed.

Gen Naravane arrived in Dimapur on November 23 on a three-day visit to review the security situation in the North East region, it said. 

Uopn his arrival in Dimapur, the COAS was briefed by Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Eastern Command and Lieutenant General RP Kalita GOC Spear Corps on operational preparedness along the northern borders as well as operations in hinterland of Assam, Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. 

He was also briefed on the progress of the ongoing Naga peace talks, it added. 

Gen Naravane is scheduled to inaugurate a new residential facility at Kohima Orphanage to be run by Assam Rifles prior to his return to New Delhi on November 25.

The inauguration is part of Indian Army’s “efforts in contributing towards development and equitable opportunities to all sections of the society," the release added.
