Dimapur, Jan 17 (MExN): The Indian Army has plans to link every battalion in its fold with a network of secure, robust and countrywide information hubs, all connected to one main center of Army Headquarters in order to facilitate quick and easy sharing of information among the different battalions in the country.
A press release issued by the Public Relations Officer (Ministry of Defence), Kohima Lt Col Nirupam Bhargava stated that this plan has been necessitated because network-centric warfare is becoming a norm the world over. The vehicle provides secure and converged communication technologies, and the Army now plans to link every battalion with the main server of the area. Moreover, every important signal center will have state-of-the-art exchanges helping in voice communication from even remote locations, added the release.
The release stated that with the introduction of these countrywide communication hubs, converged voice, video and data services will be easily provided to the commanders and staff officers at all levels during operations and in the fields, besides allowing commanders in the fields to discuss, decide and act, based on the live videos streamed by unmanned aerial vehicles.. The release stated that the backbone of all this is the Army’s Switched Static Communication Network (ASCON) node, which connects all small hub-nodes to the main center. The Army has innovated these vehicles which called the network connect centers, the release stated.
The release further stated that the emphasis is on the latest and state-of-the-art means of communication, which is the changing face of Indian Army and the Corps of Signals is growing from being “information providers” to becoming “information warriors”.
