Around 2 lakh tree saplings planted across Phek dist

Around 2 lakh tree saplings have been planted today throughout the Phek district during the Mega Tree Plantation Drive under the theme ‘One Person, One Tree.’

Phek DPDB chairman Kezhienyi Khalo and NPF Legislature Party leader and UDA co-chairman Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu flagged off the plantation drive at Phek Hq.

Gracing the closing function, Nagaland Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neiba Kronu thanked DPDB Phek for initiating such drive and also thanked all the concerned officers, NGOs and villagers for their active participation. He called upon the people to take care of the planted trees for economic values.

Stating that Phek district is known for agricultural activities, he said “Our economy will not improve without agriculture.” He said that Phek district has been declared as Kiwi district.

Kronu also stressed on the need to encourage the villagers for undertaking large scale plantation of fruit trees in the district. “Everything can grow well in the district,” he said and called upon the people to turn wasteland into horticulture zone.

National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd, all the Village Councils, various NGOs and CSOs participated in the drive. It was organized by District Planning & Development Board, Phek in collaboration with National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd in commemoration with World Environment Day and celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
