Dimapur, July 4 (MExN): 223 recruits, including 59 women, were inducted into the Assam Rifles during an ‘Attestation Parade’ held at the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School (ARTC&S), Sukhovi on July 4.
Brig Gurjap Singh, Commandant, Assam Rifles Training Centre and School reviewed the parade witnessed by a large number of audience including parents of the recruits.
The Commandant highlighted the antecedents of the Assam Rifles as the oldest Para Military force of the country and its diversified role, which is all encompassing in the present day environment, ranging from security to providing welfare and developmental assistance to the civil population, stated a press release from Lt Col Bhavana Sharma, SO-1 (Education) for Commandant.
North East, he stated, is a strategic area and its security is of paramount importance. “The Assam Rifles is playing a stellar role in this regard,” according to the Commandant. He complimented commanding officers of training battalions and instructors for imparting value based training to the recruits, the release added.
Brig Gurjap Singh also presented awards to the passing out recruits for their outstanding performance during training. Twinkle Chakma was awarded the medal for Best All Round Recruit. Roshan Dhurve, Dimple Rana, Vikash Kumar and M Sunila Devi were awarded the medal for being best in Firing. Shashi Kumar, DM Hokip, TH Valte and Emica Marry Pasi were awarded the medal for being best in Drill, while Aanand Kumar, Vijay, Kartik R, and Sarojini Lakra were awarded the medal for being best in Physical Training.
