ARTC&S hosts CAPF debate competition on human rights

Dimapur, August 2 (MExN): The annual North East Zone Inter Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) debate competition on human rights 2019 was organized at the Assam Rifles Training Centre & School (ARTC&S), Shokhuvi on July 30.


A total of six teams comprising of Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, CISF, SSB and ITBP represented Central Armed Police Forces based in the North-East region and participated in the event.


Sonia Singh, IPS, Inspector General of Police (Range) PHQ, Kohima (Nagaland) was the chief guest of the event, stated Bhavana Sharma, Lt Col, SO-1 (Edn) for Commandant in a press release.


The topic of the debate  “To strictly observe human rights norms in all cases of security concerns is not possible” was chosen by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) with a view to sensitize the security forces about human rights and related issues while dealing with the public.


Apart from IGP, Sonia Singh, Brig SS Dhankhar, Group Cdr, NCC, Kohima (Nagaland) and Bano Haralu, Editor, Nagaland Today, Dimapur were present as the Jury members of the event. Each force was represented by four speakers who debated for and against the motion in Hindi and English respectively.


The team of the Assam Rifles secured 1st position, whereas the teams of the BSF and ITBP secured 2nd and 3rd positions respectively in Hindi Language debate category. In the category of English Language, BSF secured 1st position, and the teams of the Assam Rifles and ITBP secured 2nd and 3rd position respectively.


Brigadier Arjun Segan, SM, DIG, Assam Rifles Training Centre & School presented the memento to the Jury members and gave away the prizes to the participants of teams.


The Brigadier enlightened the audience regarding the essential provisions of the law affecting Human Rights and their effective use. He emphasized that people in uniform must constantly strive to adhere to the law of the land and operate within the directives of the government.


He also appreciated the efforts put in by the participants and the organizing committee of the event. The semi final/ final round of debate competition will be held in New Delhi in the month of August/September.
