Senior Naga bureaucrat Asangba Chuba Ao has been appointed as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation following a bureaucratic shuffle by the Centre on November 14.
A 2003-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Bihar cadre, Ao is the first male Naga IAS officer from Nagaland to be assigned a post in the level of Joint Secretary at Union Government Ministry.
He has been appointed in place of Usha Padhee, IAS, for a tenure of five years ‘or until further orders, whichever is earlier,’ according to an order issued by Deepti Umashankar, Secretary, Appointments Committee of the Cabinet & Establishment Officer.
Ao had previously worked as Secretary, Education Department with additional charge as the State Project Director, Bihar Education Project Council and Managing Director, Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation.
Including him, as many as 13 Joint Secretaries have been appointed to various central government departments.
