ASF: Kohima demarcates surveillance zones

Dimapur, July 6 (MExN): With the detection of African Swine Fever (ASF) at various locations in Kohima district, Kohima Deputy Commissioner Shanavas C has notified that slaughter of pigs, import and export of pigs and piglets, and transportation of pigs have been banned at the infected and surveillance zones.

The DC has also notified that Viswema, Dzülekie, Dzürüzu near KMC Dumping Site (New Meriema), and areas locate within 1 km radius have been demarcated as infected zones.

The following areas have been demarcated as surveillance zones: Jakhama, Khuzama, Kigwema, Kidima, Kezoma, Phesama, Pfuchama, Mima and Mitelephe; Khonoma; and Meriema, Old and New Tsiesema, High School Area Kohima.

ADC Pfutsero bans inter-village transport of pigs

Meanwhile, ADC Pfutsero Japheth Woch NCS has informed that the inter-village transportation of pigs/piglets (both live and slaughtered) to Pfutsero town or vice versa from Phusachudu village would remain restricted with immediate effect, as per the recommendation of the Assistant Veterinary Surgeon, Pfutsero.

A DIPR report from the state DIPR stated that unusual deaths of pigs were reported from Phusachudu village and the pigs were found to be affected with high fever and anorexia. Similar reports were also received from Pfutsero town and villages under Pfutsero Sub-Division, it said, adding that collection of blood samples of the affected pigs and post-mortem on the carcass had been carried out for further lab testing.'

It also informed that any person who intends to slaughter pigs may obtain clearance from the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Pfutsero to ensure that livestock is in good health.
