Dimapur, June 24 (MExN): The Dimapur district administration has declared Thahekhu Block-7 and the affected premises as an infected zone following the detection of laboratory-confirmed cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in pigs.
In an order issued by Deputy Commissioner Dr Tinojongshi Chang, the action was taken after the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO), Dimapur, reported confirmed ASF cases in the area through a communication dated June 10.
ASF is a highly contagious viral disease affecting domestic and wild pigs and requires immediate containment measures to prevent its further spread, the order stated.
The district administration has directed that necessary containment measures be enforced in accordance with the Government of India's guidelines on ASF.
Movement of pigs, piglets, pork, pork products, feed, equipment and other potentially contaminated materials into or out of the infected area will be strictly regulated or restricted as advised by the Veterinary Department.
The Chief Veterinary Officer, Dimapur, has been tasked with carrying out surveillance, sample collection, disinfection, culling or disposal, where necessary, and other containment measures in accordance with prescribed protocols.
The Superintendent of Police, Dimapur, and all concerned administrative authorities have been directed to extend necessary assistance to ensure effective implementation of the containment measures.
The District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO), Dimapur, has been asked to disseminate public advisories and awareness messages on ASF and precautionary measures to be observed by pig farmers and the general public.
The administration has also directed all pig farmers, traders, transporters and other stakeholders in the affected area to cooperate with the Veterinary Department and comply with directions issued from time to time.
The order came into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders.
