Peren, June 30 (MExN): National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), under the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Peren, has concluded the observance of Anti-Malaria Month 2025. The month-long campaign, carried out under the directive of the State NVBDCP, was organized under the theme ‘Test, Treat, Track,’ with a focus on awareness generation, early detection, and the prevention of malaria and other vector-borne diseases, stated a press reease issued by Shekho Sophie, District Media Co-ordinator, CMO office Peren.

Vimekhrie-u Metsieo, Consultant, District Vector Borne Disease, said a series of coordinated activities were implemented throughout the district. These included awareness drives, testing camps, school-based sessions, and community outreach programmes.

The campaign actively engaged ASHAs, health workers, and the NVBDCP team, who reached out to twenty schools across the district.

Among the institutions covered were Yatarang School Ahthibung, GHSS Ahthibung, GHS Bonkholong, Christian School Ahthibung, St. Joseph School Ahthibung, GMS Ahthibung, GMS Gaili, GMS Saijang, Ikiesing Memorial School Nkwareu, Chwang School Samzuiram, Haisuang School Beisumpuikam, GHS Mhainamtsi, GMS Jalukiezangdi, LM School Mhainamtsi, Ibangthou Memorial School Jalukie Town, Government High School Old Tesen, Christ the King School Nkialwa, Heraka School Tening, GPS Mpai Old, and GMS Mpai New.

During these school sessions, students were sensitized on malaria transmission, elimination strategies, and preventive measures against other vector-borne diseases. Simultaneously, community-level awareness campaigns were conducted in key public spaces, particularly marketplaces that see a high influx of people from outside the district.

Awareness and screening activities were held at New Jalukie Thursday Bazaar, Samzuiram Wednesday Bazaar, Ahthibung Tuesday Bazaar, Ngwalwa Saturday Bazaar, Peren Town Daily Bazaar, and throughout Jalukie Town.

Public announcements (miking) were used to spread information on malaria prevention. Information, Education and Communication (IEC) and Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) efforts were strengthened through the distribution of pamphlets in local dialects and the display of posters across high-traffic areas.

An important feature of the campaign was a one-day Advocacy Meet on vector-borne disease control, held on June 27 at CMTC Hall, Jalukie. The meeting was attended by community stakeholders, including the President of the Jalukie Town Chairman Union, Chairman of various wards, Goanburas, and youth leaders, all of whom expressed commitment to supporting local vector control initiatives.

The campaign concluded with the screening of cadets and staff of Sainik School Punglwa following their return from the summer break, as a preventive health measure. The NVBDCP team continues to urge the public to adopt preventive measures and remain vigilant as part of the district’s ongoing efforts toward malaria elimination.
