KOHIMA, MAY 24 (MExN): Wrestlers from Nagaland added four more medals to their tally on Day 2 of the ongoing Asian Belt Wrestling Alysh Championship in New Delhi, taking their total haul to six medals—one silver and five bronze—across Classic and Freestyle categories.
According to a release from Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) Media Cell, the medals on Day 2 came under the Senior Freestyle Belt Wrestling category. The medal winners representing Team India included Kuvenu Puro – Silver (Men’s 80 kg), Venuzo Dawhuo – Bronze (Men’s 100 kg), Rokuokehie Khawakhrie – Bronze (Men’s 70 kg) and Lhupra Vero – Bronze (Men’s 60 kg).
In addition, Team India secured two bronze medals in the Men’s Team Championships in both Classic and Freestyle categories. These were received on behalf of the team by coaches Vekhriyi Chuzho and Keneilel Kevin Rote.
Earlier, on Day 1 of the competition, Nagaland wrestlers had contributed two bronze medals to India’s tally in the Classic Style category through Vevokho Ruho (Men’s 90 kg) and Haizuyile (Women’s 65 kg).
The NWA expressed gratitude to wrestling enthusiasts and supporters for their encouragement and stated that Team Nagaland is expected to return to Dimapur by May 26.
