
Guwahati, July 28 (PTI): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday underlined the need for skill development of contractors to ensure quality infrastructure in the state. Sonowal raised the issue of unskilled contractors during a meeting with Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Mahendra Nath Pandey, here.
Pandey asked the ministry officials present in the meeting to explore possibilities of developing programmes for skill development of contractors in partnership with the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship.
He urged the state government to allot suitable land for setting up a Northeast Skill Centre in Guwahati, which will cater to the needs of the entire region.
Sonowal told the union minister that land for the project has already been identified.
The CM also sought the ministry's support for setting up an Assam Skill University and a National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) in the state.
Minister for Industry and Commerce, Chandra Mohan Patowary said that as per the Assam Industrial Policy, the state government would give Rs 10,000 to industries for each youth recruited in the state.
