Dimapur, March 1 (MExN): The United Naga Tribes Association on Border Areas (UNTABA) on Sunday expressed dissent at the appeal of one Sushil Kumar to the Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court seeking intervention in the sub-judice matter of the border issue between Nagaland and Assam in view of the implementation of ILP regime in the state of Nagaland.
It was reported in various local newspapers on February 28 that Sushil Kumar who identified himself as a former member of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland had filed a PIL on the matter in the Guwahati High Court.
Responding to the reports, UNTABA said that as far as the implementation of ILP regime in the state of Nagaland and in the district of Dimapur is concerned, it is the prerogative of the Government of Nagaland to formulate its own policies and mechanisms for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and its success. The Association also expressed confidence that the state government has appropriate mechanisms at hand for the same.
The case of the boundary issue between the two states is pending in the Supreme Court of India for more than 30 years now, the UNTABA said. It reminded that the matter is sub judice and that people should refrain from commenting on it to avoid misunderstandings among the people of the two states and between the citizens of Dimapur and Kachar District of Karbi Anglong, Assam in particular.
