Assam Poll: Dimapur Police enforces border seal and travel restrictions

Dimapur, April 6 (MExN): The Office of the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, has announced border sealing and restrictions on movement in border areas in view of the Assam Legislative Assembly Elections 2026 scheduled on April 9.

The Silent Period under the Model Code of Conduct enforced by the Election Commission of India will be in force from 8:00 PM on April 7, to 5:00 PM on April 9. 

During this period, all forms of election campaigning, including public meetings, speeches, rallies, processions, and display of election matter on television, radio, cable networks, and social media, are strictly prohibited. according to a notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime)/PRO, Dimapur.

With effect from 5:00 PM on April 7, the inter-state border with Assam shall be sealed until 5:00 PM on April 9. Security forces have been deployed at all border entry and exit points to enforce this order strictly, the notification added.

During the period of border sealing, all inter-state border crossings, except movement on the National Highway, shall remain closed. No public movement of persons who are not registered voters of the concerned constituency shall be permitted in the border areas, and no outsiders are permitted to enter or move within the jurisdiction of another constituency or administrative area during this period. Persons travelling on the National Highway may do so for bona fide transit purposes only.

All residents, traders, commuters, and the general public have been requested to plan their travel in advance and avoid unnecessary movement in border areas during this period to avoid inconvenience. The notice has been issued purely in public interest and for general awareness, so that citizens are not put to avoidable inconvenience, the PRO added.
