Jalukie, March 31 (MExN): Jalukie battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR North) apprehended an alleged extortionist in old Chalkot village on March 29. “On receipt of the information about extortion activity, Assam Rifles troops rushed to the site alongwith a police representative and nabbed one individual who was identified as NNC cadre named Sub Lt Letinlen,” alleged a press release from HQ IGAR (North). The apprehended along with the recovered items was handed over to Ahthibung Police Station for further investigation, it added.
In a separate incident, the Jalukie battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended two GPRN/NSCN cadres on charges of extortion during a search operation launched along with police representatives in Ahthibung on March 30. The cadres have been identified as Namdun Zeliang alias Don Zeliang, Regional Administrative Officer and Lieutenant Elijah alias Haisuibe Jeme. “The two cadres were involved in issuing house tax notices to extort money from local residents of the region,” alleged Assam Rifles in another press release. The recoveries from the two included 20 extortion notices of house tax for the villagers signed by the Regional Administrative Officer of the organisation and a diary containing details of GPRN/NSCN Zeliangrong Region extortion money, it added. The apprehended persons along with recovered items were handed over to Ahthibung Police Station for further investigation, the release informed.
