Assam Rifles apprehend NSCN cadres, arms peddlers

Wokha, January 27 (MExN): Troops of 17 Assam Rifles apprehended three NSCN (IM) cadres and two youth near Bhandari village in Wokha district on January 25. According to a press release from Assam Rifles, the cadres have been identified as SS Cpl Mhathung Lotha, SS Cpl Renjamo Lotha and Leacy Yankithung Lotha. The cadres were apprehended travelling in a Bolero (registration No NL-05C-2627). One AK 47 Rifle, one 9mm Carbine and 29 assorted live rounds along with extortion book and Rs 58, 305/- in cash were found from their possession, the note added.  The cadres were handed over to Bhandari Police Station.

apprehended

19 Assam Rifles apprehended one NSCN (K) cadre identified as  SS 2nd Lt Bokato, Army No 16420 near War Cemetery, Kohima "while attempting to carry out extortion from trucks and taxis plying on Dimapur to Kohima road on January 23." A press release from AR said one 7.65mm pistol, two magazines and ten live rounds were recovered from him. The release noted that SS 2nd Lt Bokato was earlier apprehended by 19 AR on December 10, 2013 from Forest Colony and he is presently on bail. The cadre was handed over to Police Station (South), Kohima.

Arms peddlers apprehended
Based on specific information about transshipment of weapons in general area of Purana Bazar, troops of 29 Assam Rifles launched an operation and apprehended two arms peddlers, namely Kheto Sumi and Holoto Yeptho. Two pistols of 7.65 mm caliber along with four magazines and one Bolero without registration number were recovered from them, informed Assam Rifles in a press release. The apprehended persons were handed over to East Police Station, Dimapur, it added.
