Dimapur, January 16 (MExN): A Captain of NSCN (IM) was arrested during a operation conducted by 37 Assam Rifles under aegis of 6 Sector Assam Rifles at 7th Mile, Chumukedima on January 12, the AR claimed today.
An AR press note informed that the operation was conducted by the unit based on information regarding movement of an armed NSCN (IM) cadre in the area.
Surveillance was established in the area to detect presence of the cadre, it said adding that the suspected individual was intercepted at around 6:30 PM.
According to the AR, one Point 22 Pistol with magazine and one mobile phone were recovered during the operation. It further identified the cadre as one Ambo Sema, a resident of Ikishe village near 5th Mile.
He further admitted that he was attempting to sell the recovered weapon to a potential customer, the AR added.
Arguing the actions of the NSCN (IM) cadre was in contravention to the Ceasefire Ground Rules, the AR said he was handed over to Diphupar Police Station on the same day along with the recovered weapon.
