Dimapur, July 12 (MExN): Battalions of the Assam Rifles (AR) under the aegis of HQ IGAR (N) conducted several activities on July 9 and 10.
AR Ghaspani Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (N) interacted with village elders, chairman and Gaon Burahs of Peducha, Kiruphema Bawe, Kiruphema Basa and Jotsoma villages under Sechu Zubza sub-division of Kohima district on July 9.
“As part of the outreach efforts, discussion on the prevailing security situation, COVID-19 pandemic, emergent need for vaccination, awareness on threats posed by un-identified aerial objects like drones as well as employment avenues for youth and women were discussed,” stated a press release issued by the PRO, HQ IGAR (N).
Initiatives being undertaken by the AR towards sustainable empowerment of the Nagas were also deliberated upon. Along with other participants, a total of 46 village council authorities including chairman, secretary, youth president and GBs attended the event.
The battalion also organized tree plantation drive ‘Van Mahotsava’ in collaboration with civil administration officials, civil society and youth organisations at Medziphema Town on July 9.
Imsongmeren, ADC Medziphema sub-division also attended the event which witnessed participation by 79 in total.
The Dimapur Battalion of AR provided ration to daily wagers and poor inhabitants affected by COVID-19 lockdown at Ao Khel Notun Basti on July 10. Ao Khel Notun Basti Council, Chairman expressed appreciation for the assistance.
Meanwhile, the Mon Battalion of AR distributed chairs and water tank to Holy Cross High School, Mon on July 10.
Earlier, a fire incident which occurred last month had caused loss of School property. The provision of the said items will facilitate in uninterrupted continuation of academic session for the students of the school, the PRO, HQ IGAR (N) stated.
