Assam Rifles celebrates 20 years of Kargil Vijay Diwas

Dimapur, July 26 (MExN): Battalions of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) celebrated the 20th anniversary of victory of Kargil War by conducting various activities at various districts of Nagaland. Dimapur Battalion organised a Painting Competition at Community Hall, Ganesh Nagaron with an aim to provide a platform for children to express their talent and thoughts through art. 29 students participated. In another event, an audio visual displaying the valor and sacrifice of our troops in the war was screened at Kashiram Basti Garrison, witnessed by families of troops and civilian friends from the locality.

Kohima: Kohima Battalion organised “Small Arms firing” for National Cadet Corps (Boys and Girls) of Kohima district. 23 boys and 21 girls NCC cadets along with instructors participated in the firing. A movie on Kargil War was also screened followed by a lecture cum interaction on various entry schemes for joining the Armed Forces. A solemn wreath laying ceremony was also carried at the Battalion war memorial in honor of the martyrs. 

Jalukie: Jalukie Battalion organised screening of ‘Audio Visual Display’ for student audience showcasing the valor and accomplishments of the Indian Army. 308 students and 27 teachers from Liangmai Baptist School, Tening and Government High Secondary School, Peren witnessed the same. 

Medziphema: Medziphema Battalion organized a presentation on Kargil war at SFS School, Medziphema. A total of two teachers, 40 girls and 56 boys attended. The Battalion also organized a painting competition on the theme Kargil war at ARPS, Medziphema. 42 students and six teachers participated.

Chieswema: Chieswema Battalion observed the 20th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas paying homage to the brave heart through a solemn wreath laying ceremony at the Capt N Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous) War Memorial, Nerhema. A painting and essay competition was also organised at Chizami, Pfutsero, Chakbama, Ziezou and Chiepobozou paying tribute to the heroes of the Indian Army during the Kargil War. This was stated in a press release issued by Lt Col, L Vincent Patton, PRO, HQ IGAR (N).

Mokokchung: Mokokchung Battalion felicitated parents of Subedar Imliakum Ao of 2 Naga Regiment of Chuchuyimpang village, Mokokchung district who is himself an embodiment of heroism and valor. The contribution of North East warriors in the likes of Captain N Kengruse, MVC of 2nd RAJ RIF and Captain Clifford Nongrum, MVC of 12th JAK RIF among others, was brought out in a solemn gathering of the battalion.

Wokha: Wokha Battalion at its Headquarters in Wokha on July 23 organized a painting competition and weapon display, besides lecture. 480 students and 15 teachers participated. In another event on July 24, a “Run for Fun” was organized which saw participation of 350 students from Spring Dale, Christian Model Higher Secondary School, GHSS and ARP School.

Phek: Phek Battalion organized an Inter School Painting competition wherein 47 students from various government schools from Meluri participated. In another event a 1.5 km ‘Run for Our Heroes’ was organized at DC Ground, Phek. 137 boys and girls and 192 troops of Assam Rifles participated in the run.

Kiphire: Kiphire Battalion organized a 2 km 'Run for our Heroes’ for students of St Joseph’s School, Akhegwo village. The event was attended by 155 students along with staff. An audio-visual on Kargil war was also screened at Government High School, Kiphire followed by lecture for students about the various entry schemes of the Armed forces. A total of 73 students along with staff attended. A friendly cricket match was also conducted at the helipad ground, Kiphire between troops of Assam Rifles and DC XI. Altogether 30 players participated in the match.
