Dimapur, August 22 (MExN): Kiphire Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) assisted in restoring the Pokhpur-Thongsonyu border road link, which was disrupted by two major landslides on August 20.
The road, being the only lifeline for the border villages of Thongsonyu and Tukhinkiu, required to be cleared urgently to enable movement of residents and essential supplies, an official defence release stated.
Assam Rifles COB promptly responded to the request for JCB support and cleared the landslides on August 20 and 21, it added.
The prompt response from the Assam Rifles was appreciated by residents who also participated in the restoration effort, it said.
Meanwhile, the Tuensang Battalion of Assam Rifles assisted civil authorities in recovery of concrete loaded lorry that had broken down on August 20, blocking the only road link between Tuensang and Mon.
According to the release, a rescue team from Tuensang Battalion immediately swung into action and assisted in recovery of the vehicle and restored the road for vehicular move.
The release also informed that the Wokha Battalion of Assam Rifles provided essential rations to 22 ex-servicemen from Wokha in a small gesture to reach-out to them during COVID-19 pandemic. In a resolve to jointly fight the pandemic, they were encouraged to strictly abide by the COVID-19 protocols for their own safety and the safety of their loved ones.
The initiative was well received and appreciated by the beneficiaries, it said.
