Assam Rifles continues Tiranga campaign, holds awareness progs

Kohima, August 14 (MExN): The various Battalions of the Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) continued their Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign and organised other activities across Nagaland this week. 

In Piphema, the Ghaspani Battalion held a drawing competition for the students of the Government Middle School (GMS) on August 12 with the participation of 100 students and 10 staff. It was followed with interactive lecture on Indian National Flag, deliberation on Flag Code of India for students, an official release said. 

The Battalion also organised a mega awareness drive on Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Nihokhu, Niuland on August 12, where 320 students and 26 teaching staff participated.

On the same day, the Mokokchung Battalion conducted awareness campaign at Longtho Primary School under Mokokchung District, where 40 students, school administration and village authorities were imparted knowledge on the importance of the Tricolour and other National Symbols.

The Battalion further conducted a “Tiranga Rally” in Mokokchung Town on August 12, with an aim to “evoke a feeling of patriotism by exhorting people across the region to hoist the National Flag. “ The rally covering the distance of 2 kilometres witnessed the participation of about 250 civilians including school students and 150 AR personnel, commencing from Sewak Gate and concluding at Veer Smriti Memorial complex.

The Jalukie Battalion under also organised a motorcycle rally from Jalukie Town to Athibung Town in Peren District on August 12, with similar aim. A total of 16 bikers of Speed Liber Riders of Jalukie volunteered for the rally.

At Chenloisho Wangto Primary School under in Mon district, the Tuensang Battalion of Assam Rifles held a Flag hoisting ceremony on Friday.  A total of 75 students along with Teacher staff & village CSOs participated in the event. A ‘human flag’ was also made by students using tri-colour balloons and flags were distributed by Battalion to all the participants, the release said. 

The Battalion also conducted a lecture on Indian Independence at GMS Yakshu, Mon on the same day, with participation of 6 staff members and 100 students.

The Dimapur Battalion also held an awareness lecture on importance of National Flag at Vidya Bhawan Higher Secondary School, Dimapur on August 12.  It was followed by National Anthem and Flag march by students and teachers in the school premises in the morning. 420 students and 28 teachers attended the event.

Meanwhile, the Jalukie Battalion celebrated ‘Raksha Bandhan’ festival across Peren district on August 11.  Following ethos of ‘Ek Rakhi Har Sipahi Ke Naam’ the local womenfolk tied Rakhi on wrists of Assam Rifles personnel at multiple locations of Peren town, Athibung and Jalukie town in Peren district, the release informed.  

The Battalion also organised a workshop on tobacco and cancer awareness at Assam Rifles Public School, Jalukie on August 12. The aim of the workshop was to educate the students about the emerging evidence on the link between tobacco consumption, smoking and cancer, it added.
