Chümoukedima, January 31 (MExN): A total of 282 recruits, including 36 women, were formally inducted into the Assam Rifles on Saturday after an attestation parade held at the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School (ARTC&S) in Sukhovi, Chümoukedima.
The parade marked the successful completion of 44 weeks of rigorous training in encompassed battle craft, weapon handling, jungle lane shooting, and specialisation in counter-insurgency operations.
It was led by Captain Anjali Kirola, stated a press release.
The reviewing officer, Major General JS Bainsla, SM, Additional Director General of Assam Rifles, addressed the recruits, highlighting the rich legacy of the country's oldest paramilitary force and its role in safeguarding the nation.
He underscored the growing contribution of women rifle personnel, who have been serving in frontline duties since 2015 and have demonstrated exemplary performance in the North East, Jammu & Kashmir, United Nations Missions, and Republic Day parades in 2019 and 2023.

“The presence of women soldiers in frontline roles strengthens security and furthers the vision of a women-empowered India,” Maj Gen Bainsla said.
He exhorted the recruits to serve the nation with sincerity, discipline, and professionalism while keeping pace with evolving technology.
The newly attested personnel will now join their respective units across various operational sectors.
During the ceremony, recruits were also recognised for their outstanding performance.
GD Appu Chakma was awarded the Overall Best Recruit (Best in Physical & Firing), GD (Mahila) T Maloti Devi secured the Overall Second Best Recruit, and GD Bikash Mandal bagged the Best in Drill award.
Maj Gen Bainsla congratulated the recruits and their parents on the successful completion of training and wished them success.
