Assam Rifles seize contraband 

Dimapur, July 13 (MExN): As part of the ongoing crackdown by the Assam Rifles to prevent illegal activities in the state, troops of Assam Rifles seized several contraband items in operations across the state.


According to a press release from the Assam Rifles HQ IGAR (N), based on specific information about a consignment of contraband, troops of Assam Rifles and police representative launched an operation in 5th Mile general area on July 11.

 

During the operation, 430 bags of contraband (Areca Nuts) worth approximately Rs 1 crore were seized and two persons, identified as Sanwarmal Chaudhary and Om Prakash Tholiya were apprehended. 


The apprehended individuals and seized contraband was handed over to Superintendent of Anti Smuggling Customs Prevention Division, Dimapur, the release stated.


In another operation on the same day, based on specific intelligence regarding a consignment of contraband, troops of Assam Rifles and police representative launched an operation in general area Stadium Colony, Jalukie Town, and recovered  4.25 kgs of marijuana worth Rs 35,000 and Rs 28,240 in cash. In this regard, the release stated that two persons, identified as Ngialung and Aron were apprehended and handed over to Jalukie Police Station along with the contraband. 


Meanwhile, basing on specific intelligence regarding a consignment of contraband, troops of Assam Rfiles intercepted two Scorpios carrying 28 cases of MC Dowell Rum and five cases of Kingfisher Beer worth Rs 4,99,200 at Koio Road, under Wokha district on July 12. In this regard, four individuals, namely, Hekaito, Akash Limbu, Vinoka Achumi and Man Bahadur Pradhan were apprehended and handed over to Wokha police station along with seized liquor for further investigation, the release stated.
