
Jorhat, July 31 (MExN): The 11th Foundation Day celebration of the Assam Valley Baptist Mission (AVBM) was held at its Nakachari HQ today.
Kevi Seyie, member of Angami Baptist Council, Kohima graced the daylong celebration which witnessed various Christian activities from amongst its 52 constituent churches, a press release informed.
The programme started with flag hoisting by its president followed by the speaker dedicating a motorbike, sponsored by the Kumlong Baptist Church, Mokokchung, and a newly carved out office, with its furniture donated by the Alempang Baptist Church, Mokokchung.
Seyie in her message dwelt on the topic “Right Foundation” where she touched many a hearts from among the congregation with her almost perfect Assamese which was an asset for many in penetrating the word of God, the release stated. Later, she and her colleague Kole Natso offered prayers for persons suffering from different ailments. The choir team of Jorhat Baptist Church enthralled the congregation with special numbers. It is pertinent to mention that this church was established in 1906 and is located in the ETC Jorhat campus.
The Assam Valley Baptist Mission (AVBM) is a common Baptist Christian venture initiated by about 28 Baptist Churches, mostly independent churches located in the district of Jorhat, Sivasagar and Golaghat and bordering with Nagaland in the year 2005.
Aftermath the celebration of Golden Jubilee of Nakachari Ao Baptist Church in 1996, the church endeavoured on a vision to help nurture Baptist churches around them and church installed a pastor at Nakachari Ao Baptist Church on January 9, 2000. Nakachari Ao Baptist Church gainfully used the pastor's services services in nurturing and connecting surrounding churches thereby succeeded in forming the mission in Jorhat region.
To start with, the Deacon board decided to invite likeminded churches and organised a general meeting. On Sunday of July 31, 2005, taking the willingness and presence of 28 churches, the leaders founded a platform of “Baptist Mission” at Nakachari Ao Baptist Church.
Later, on January 24, 2006, through a general council meeting, the congregation unanimously named this common platform of connecting the churches as “Assam Valley Baptist Mission”. Today, it has a total of 52 constituent churches.
The mission has succeeded in employing two evangelists, a missionary and sponsoring few deserving pastors, sending out students to Impur Bible School and SHIATS, Allahabad so far in partnership of sponsors received through Nagaland Missions Movement (NMM) Dimapur, Diphupar Ao Baptist Arogo, Dimapur, Kumlong, Mangmetong, Chungtia and Alempang Baptist Churches in Mokokchung district, Kohima Ao Baptist Church (KABA), Clark Theological College Faculty & Students Union, Aolijen and individual volunteers with a great theme - “Go therefore and make disciples of all Nations”.
