Dimapur, August 25 (MExN): Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio today said Assam government’s juvenile accusations against Nagaland will only create enmity considering such wild allegations come from the mouths of “responsible leaders.” The Chief Minister’s Secretariat issued a brief note today in response to Assam’s allegations yesterday that Nagaland was indulging in aggression.
“Issuing of such immature statements and baseless allegations will only create enmity and mistrust and responsible leaders should refrain from such unbecoming behavior,” the chief minister said. The chief minister termed totally baseless and unfounded the wild allegations of the Assam Government against Nagaland on the Nagaland-Assam border issue.
“The statements are inflammatory in nature and politically-motivated. A responsible government and leader is not expected to make such inflammatory statements which are without any basis and justification. The Nagaland Government condemns the statements and refutes all allegations made by the Assam Government spokesperson,” the chief minister said in response. The chief minister said that the Government of Nagaland is of the clear view that the people of Nagaland and Assam have coexisted as friendly neighbors since time immemorial and will continue to do so for all times. “Therefore, in order to maintain friendly relations and peaceful mutual coexistence, all disputes and outstanding issues should be resolved through negotiations under a spirit of understanding and mutual respect,” Neiphiu Rio said.
