Tuensang, April 22 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) has called on the Nagaland Government to revoke the recent absorption of 147 assistant professors and librarians, alleging a lack of transparency and meritocracy.
In a representation, the Union appealed directly to the Chief Secretary as the “guardian of the system,” for the immediate revocation of the absorption exercise and the launch of a thorough investigation to ensure all future appointments are strictly merit-based.
The Union described the selection process as “shrouded in mystery,” with evaluation criteria remaining “opaque,” leading to widespread doubts about its fairness. “Justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done,” it added, noting that the absorption process has failed to meet this fundamental principle.
The ENCSU accused vested interests of influencing appointments, resulting in “a square peg in a round hole.” Such practices could have “far-reaching consequences for the academic ecosystem,” stated the representation, appended by ENCSU President Mankap C Konyak and General Secretary K Pongki Khiung Yimkhiung.
Hence, it urged the Chief Secretary to revoke the absorption immediately and uphold the principles of meritocracy and transparency in the appointment process.
