Aboi, June 18 (MExN): Under the initiative of the Aboi Area Students’ Union (AASU), an extension room was constructed as “immediate measure” to solve the problem faced by students seeking admission to Class 11 at the Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Aboi. The newly built class room was dedicated by Hamnyei Pastor Aboi Town Baptist Church on June 18.
“It is a regular occurrence and the temporary measure was taken as the appeal to solve the accommodation problem faced by the school authorities remains unheard,” the union informed in a press release issued by AASU president Mankhat Kaihi.
The Union regretted that Aboi Town, one of the fastest growing sub-division and headquarter for several surrounding villages has only one GHSS. With the high pass percentage in Class 10 exam from the town’s centre increasing each year, students seeking admission in Class 11 “face lots of difficulties and rejection due to intake capacity of classroom,” it maintained.
Besides, sub-standard construction and crammed classrooms also worsen the situation. Though for temporary, to solve the problem, the AASU went for an alternative arrangement by constructing one classroom with intake capacity of 90-100 students, it added.
“There is huge shortage of benches and desks, forcing students to sit in tightly crammed areas during the hot humid season and to impart the best and quality education to the students, school authorities should have full working strength of teaching staff and enough class rooms so that it is conducive for both teaching and learning,” the union further opined.
In this regard, the AASU appealed the Government of Nagaland to initiate immediate allotment of constructional work at GHSS Aboi to solve the prevailing problem permanently.
It further urged the concerned authorities to look into the grievances of the GHSS, Aboi and also check and appoint required lecturers for secondary level “at the earliest.”
If the improvements are made, the department can be assured that the Union will continue to work hand in hand with the school authorities to produce the best government school results and meritorious students in the state, it added.
For the present initiative, the AASU also acknowledged the assistance given by Eshak Konyak MLA 17th A/C Aboi; N Awan Konyak Chairperson NSCPCR; All village councils under Aboi; Konyak Students’ Union; Longching Area Students’ Union; KNSK Aboi; ADC and EAC Aboi; Deputy Ranger Forest, Aboi; 13 Unions and 9 wards of Aboi Town; W Chingwang; Lampha DCO; Pinman; Alang, M.
