Reiterates its earlier stand that TR should not hold the CM chair to allow impartial Judicial Inquiry
Dimapur, July 24 (MExN): The Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASTD) today its expressed ‘utter shock’ over the press statements given by the Zeliang Officers Association Union Nagaland (ZOAN) and Zeliangrong Baudi Kohima (ZBK) in response to one of its earlier statement.
The ZOAN had expressed pain over the statement given by ASTD President rejecting the appointment of TR Zeliang as the new Chief Minister of Nagaland as well as advising “ASTD to refrain from using provoking statement which could provoke the cordial relationship between Zealing and Ao.”
In this regard, the ASTD in a press release issued by its General Secretary C Onen Walling and Vice President K Meren, appealed the ZOAN and ZBK to “kindly understand and respect the historic Naga movement” which erupted in early part of this year.
It further asked them to refer to the “tripartite agreement” signed on January 30, 2107 which was “totally undermined” by State Government on the next day, leading to a huge crisis in the State. It also resulted in death of two individuals and injuries to many others.
Consequently, a Judicial Inquiry Commission (JIC) was constituted to inquire into the matter. “The said investigation is yet to be completed, therefore under the given circumstances, ASTD made a press statement that TR Zeliang should not hold the CM Chair at this juncture so as to conduct an impartial Judicial Inquiry without any bias,” the ASTD noted.
It, thus, appealed the ZOAN and ZBK “not to be confused and jump to the conclusion without knowing the head and tail of the historic Naga Movement.”
The ASTD further pointed out to both the organisations to “kindly understand that the press statement made on 20-7-17 by ASTD cannot be taken as personal statement of Supu Jamir (its president) but as a statement of ASTD.”
Stating that the ZOAN is a association comprising of the members of highly qualified officer, the ASTD “fervently” appealed the association neither to “misread nor to level the same as personal statement” of its president.
The ASTD further clarified that is not opposing “TR Zeliang because he belongs to Zeliang community,” but since it highly honor and respect the CM’s Chair,” at this juncture he should not occupy the same “so as to conduct an impartial Judicial Inquiry without any bias.”
“Admittedly, since time immemorial there is no conflict and misunderstanding between Zeliang and Ao community. Therefore, ZOAN/ZBK should not pollute the relationship by invoking tribalism,” ASTD further stated.
