Asungba is now Padma Shri

Dimapur, May 8 (MExN): Former Member of Parliament K Asungba Sangtam today received the Padma Shri in a special investiture ceremony arranged by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Sangtam was awarded the Padma Shri by Madhukar Gupta, Secretary of Home Affairs, Government of India, in New Delhi.

The former two-time Member of Parliament was declared a Padma Shri recipient on January 26 this year for which the formal award ceremony was held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on April 14. ‘I could not attend (the award event) as I was in election campaign,” a happy Sangtam said when contacted over the phone. The Parliamentary Elections to the Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha seat, for which Sangtam is in contest, were held April 16.

62 year old Sangtam is awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution in public affairs. Among others, he was also awarded the Certificate of Excellence for Outstanding Services, Achievements and Contributions, by the India International Friendship Society in 2001and the Best Citizens of India Award by the International Publishing House in 2002.
