Athibung camp to be faction free zone

NSCN (K) cadres vacate camp; GPRN/NSCN to follow suit

Noting that the tussle over Athibung designated camp has led to killings between the NSCN (K) and GPRN/NSCN the Government of India has removed the designated camp as a means to restoring peace. The camp will not belong to any group and entire Athibung would be ‘free’ of any underground factions, an NSCN (K) source has said.

In line with this decision, around 42 cadres of the NSCN (K) on Tuesday noon vacated the camp and moved to Suruhuto designated camp escorted by the Assam Rifles. However, NSCN (K) sources said their cadres who were earlier staying at Athibung would be moved to Wongtho camp around 30 minutes away from Tuensang.

The proposed Wongtho camp was jointly verified on Tuesday by the Ceasefire Supervisory Board, district administration and NSCN (K) members. NSCN (K) source said they would occupy the camp once the Government of India gives the green signal. It was also informed that the process of evicting the GPRN/NSCN cadres would begin tomorrow.
