ATKK comes out against substandard development and multiple taxation

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 6 (MExN): The Asuto Tokukujo Kukami Kughakulu (ATKK), representing 20 villages in the district of Zunheboto, has issued a resolute directive regarding development projects within its jurisdiction. The conglomerate has mandated that all contractors and proprietors undertaking development works adhere strictly to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by the Government. Under the new guidelines, any construction using substandard materials or deviating from the approved DPR or contractual conditions will prompt legal action.

A press release from the ATKK said that ensuring transparency and quality control is vital for fostering sustainable economic growth. “We will closely monitor all developmental activities and urge stakeholders to report any issues such as coercive taxation demands, extortion, or intimidation by individuals or groups. Our commitment to public welfare requires us to ensure that no contractor or agency benefits from non-compliance,” stated the ATKK. It further warned that any failure by contractors or stakeholders to cooperate or report such irregularities could result in the withdrawal of ATKK’s support for their projects.

Meanwhile, the ATKK announced support for the resolution passed by the Sumi Baghi Hoho on July 20, 2024. The Sumi Baghi Hoho, acting in response to the issue of multiple taxation by various Naga political groups, decreed that effective January 1, 2025, all forms of taxation levied by these groups in the Sumi-inhabited area be halted until a unified framework is established. The resolution aims to eliminate the confusion, harassment, and exploitation experienced by ordinary citizens due to the fragmented taxation system.

The ATKK reaffirmed the organization’s position, saying, “We fully support the Sumi Baghi Hoho resolution and will implement its provisions without favoritism to any Naga Political Group. This is a crucial step toward consolidating our efforts for a unified and sustainable economic environment that benefits all citizens in Nagaland.”
