Atleast 21 offices burned in Feb 2 Kohima violence

As the cinders from the burnt remnants of Thursday night’s mob violence in Kohima cooled down, the full scale of the damage began to emerge today.  

Atleast 21 government offices were burnt down and 11 government vehicles were damaged during the riot. 

Atleast four vehicles belonging to officials of the DC office and seven vehicles of the District DBs were damaged. Further the DC's office and the adjoining offices such as the guardroom, North Treasury office, and DRDA project office were also vandalised. “Some of us DBs and SDOs tried to push away the angry protestors but they outnumbered us and threw stones at us. Most of us were hit by stones hurled at us especially the SDO Sadar was seriously injured,” informed a DB.  

During the torching down of the KMC office and adjoining offices, some burglars were caught stealing items from the burning offices. The seized items included four computers, 1 television, a wall clock, two heaters, one printer and several multi-plugs. The burglars were caught and later released informed Keneilezo Sechü, Head DB, Sechü Zubza SDO office. The seized items are under the custody of the DC and owners can reclaim them from the mentioned office.
