ATMA Aghunaqa block conducts demonstration & BFAC meeting

Dimapur, July 21 (MExN): ATMA Dimapur Aghunaqa Block conducted BFAC meeting and demonstration programmes at Nikihe village on July 18. During the meeting trainings under PMKSY to be conducted were discussed and on the other hand resource person Temjentoshi, AO-II (Niuland SDAO) spoke on the topic ‘IPM on Paddy and Soyabean.’  

He highlighted on various strategies to control pests, weeds and diseases through natural, biological, agronomic methods and also with pesticides. He emphasized on various insect pests like stem borer, planthoppers, leaf folder, hispa, climbing cutworm and gundhi bug. He also mentioned about the pests of soyabean like soybean looper, green clover worm, velvetbean caterpillar and how to control it. Resource person cited about the judicious use of pesticides in accordance with IPM principles i.e. as last resort and not as first option.

Further, resource person Nungshilepden, AO-II (Niuland SDAO) spoke on the topic ‘System of Rice intensification (SRI).’ He said that SRI is a methodology aimed at increasing the yield of rice produced in farming. It is a low water, labour intensive, organic method that uses younger seedlings singly spaced and typically hand weeded with special tools. SRI concepts and practices have continued to evolve as they are being adapted to rain-fed (un-irrigated) conditions and with transplanting being superseded by direct-seeding sometimes.  

During the programme total of 35 farmers participated which was chaired by Moakumzuk, ATM, Niuland Block.
