Zunheboto: A daylong farmer-scientist interaction sponsored by ATMA, Zunheboto was held at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Lumami, Nagaland University. The main objective of the interaction was to find out the problems faced by the farmers and find solutions, a press release informed. During the interaction, it was found that farmers are facing lot of problems in managing their pigs and poultry i.e., especially disease management in animals.
The release informed that Programme Coordinator KVK, Zunheboto, SMS (Agronomy), SMS (Plant protection), SMS (Agri Extension) and SMS (Soil Science) led the interaction event, which was attended by 23 farmers from Lumami village.
Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) plant protection highlighted on management of Chilli crop at nursery stage. Farmers also enquired about management of Gundhi Bug, which causes a huge loss in paddy fields. It was suggested to place rotten meat or crabs in and around the field for pest management.
Management practices of citrus trunk borer, white ants, insect pest in colocasia, banana and mustard were discussed. SMS (Agronomy) discussed about the problem on maize cultivation and measures to overcome them. Problems on potato cultivation in regard of procuring planting materials and disease infestation were also discussed. The farmers were encouraged to go for True Potato Seeds (TPS) for increasing productivity. SMS (Soil Science) requested the farmers to get their soil tested in KVK for proper nutrient management and soil health.
SMS (Agri Extension) discussed and demonstrated about the usefulness of Kissan Call centre (toll free No. 1800-180-1551) which can be utilized by farmers to get any information about agriculture and allied subjects in Nagamese instantly which will help to solve their problems. Farmers were provided with free veterinary medicines, bio pesticides, bio-control agents and maize seeds.
