Dimapur, May 20 (MExN): ATMA-Dimapur conducted orientation for the Block Farmers Advisory Committee (BFAC) and Farmers Friends (FFs) cum training on oilseeds and turmeric cultivation on May 19 at KGPO Hall, Kuhuboto Town, Dimapur.
A press note received here stated that keynote address was delivered by Ahovi Sema, DAO & Project Director (ATMA-Dimapur) on the potentiality of growing various oilseed crops in the state as well as the district. He encouraged the farmers to utilize the land to its maximum potential and to work hard towards attaining self-sustainability. The BFAC and FFs were oriented about ATMA and its activities by J. Akato Chishi, Deputy Project Director-I (ATMA-Dimapur). He explained the concept and implementation of ATMA for new extension reforms. He also, imparted them their roles and responsibilities and to co-ordinate with the ATMA officials for effective implementation of ATMA programme in the district.
For the technical session, first resource person, Vinoka Kiba, SMS (ATMA-Dimapur) dwelt on the topic Package of practices of Soyabean and Sesamum through a power point presentation to the farmers present at the training programme. The second resource person, Along Tzudir, HEA, Dept. of Horticulture trained the farmers on the Package of practices of Turmeric and also spoke extensively on the cultivation of organic foods and its benefits on human health.
The programme was chaired by Janet Chishi, Deputy Project Director-II (ATMA-Dimapur) and vote of thanks was conveyed by Toivi Swu, AO & BTT Convenor, Kuhuboto Block. Altogether, around 50 participants benefited out of the training. The training programme concluded with free distribution of Soyabean and Sesamum seeds to all the participants.
