ATMA functionaries attend skill upgradation training on Beekeeping

Dimapur, September 28 (MExN): The Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission with funding support from Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) conducted a two-day capacity building and skill upgradation training on Beekeeping for 33 ATMA functionaries from September 25 to 26 at NBHM’s Multi-Utility Centre 6th Mile, Dimapur, with NBHM team members as resource persons.  

A press release by Chubanungla Shilu, team member, NBHM stated that the trainees comprising 33 ATMA functionaries from 6 districts- Kohima, Dimapur, Peren, Mokokchung, Phek and Zunheboto were trained on the scientific management of honey bee colonies through technical sessions and practical demonstrations.  

The objective of the training was to empower the ATMA functionaries on beekeeping techniques so that they can effectively transfer the knowledge to farmers and beekeepers at the Block and Village Level in their respective districts. Also through such training meaningful convergences and collaborations can be arrived at with the ATMAs of the State and the Mission in the near future for the benefit of the State’s beekeeping community.  

Advisor Agriculture & State Coordinator for GIZ, Dr Cressida Jamir in the inaugural session highlighted on the activities and objectives of GIZ which focuses on environmental and biodiversity conservation and livelihood interventions, besides other issues. She encouraged the ATMA trainees to learn from the NBHM resource persons and further transfer their learning to the farmers in their respective districts.  

On the concluding day, Deputy Secretary Agriculture & Team Leader NBHM T. Imtiwapang Aier expressed hope that the trainees would share their learning with their colleagues and become future trainers for beekeeping in the districts along with Team NBHM. Certificates were awarded to the trainees along with a set of bee box and tool kits for demonstration purpose at the ATMA centre.  

Similar two days training programme is slated to be undertaken by NBHM with funding support from Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) for 30 beekeepers of six districts from September 27 to 28.
