ATMA functionaries from 15 districts attend SAMETI training in Medziphema

Medziphema, February 20 (MExN): A three-day training programme for Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) functionaries on ‘Packages & Practices of Spices & Plantation Crops: its Management’ concluded here on February 20.

The training, organised by the State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) from February 18 to 20, aimed at imparting technical and on-field learning experiences on management of spices and plantation crops. A total of 30 ATMA functionaries from 15 districts of Nagaland attended the training. 

The resource persons included Ariba Anar, State Co-ordinator, NERAMAC, Nagaland, Sam Sing Taro, Spices of Board Field Office, Dimapur, Dr Benjongtoshi, Senior Officer, Godrej Agrovet Private Limited (GAVL), Yanchibemo, Technical Expert, Resources Centre, Department of Land Resource, Ruzaphema, Nagaland and Dr K Ajay Kumar, Asst Professor, Department of VSSD, SAS, Medziphema Campus. 

The topics covered included on business development, planning, role and responsibilities of NERAMAC for farmers support, dehydration of various fruits and vegetables and spices as per international demands and their  packaging standards, market linkage of spices, export  and  registration, sustainable oil palm cultivation  and procurement, management of rubber plantations, cutting technique and post harvest management and package and practices of coffee and crops.

The participants were also taken for field visits to the Resource Centre at Ruzaphema, Department of Land Resource Nagaland, and a practical session on propagation techniques of spices and plantation crops was conducted at the Department of VSSD, SAS, Medziphema Campus, the statement added.

The valedictory programme was chaired by Janet Chishi, Deputy Project Director, SAMETI, while the valedictory address was delivered by Bodevi Shuya, Director SAMETI & Principal IETC, Medziphema.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
