Medziphema, April 14 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised three-day training on ‘Introduction to NMAET’ for Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) functionaries at SAMETI, Medziphema from April 11–13.
Resource persons for the training were Dr. I. Amenla, Director SAMETI & Principal IETC; Dr. Ithika C. Swu, Tiajungla Longchar, Vikaho Chophi and Sentinaro Longchar, Deputy Project Directors, SAMETI.
A press release from SAMETI Director informed that the training covered theoretical sessions on background and introduction to central sponsored scheme National Mission on Agricultural Extension and Technology (NMAET) – Sub Mission on Agricultural Extension (SMAE); organizational structure at National Level and IDWG – Functions; Organizational structure at State level and District/Block; Stakeholders/Convergence and Joint visits; Some examples in some ATMA districts like Mokokchung/ Kohima/ Dimapur/ Wokha etc.
Other topics included SAMETI – Objectives and activities, Extension Education Institute (EEI) & MANAGE, Hyderabad – An overview, Innovative central sector Extension schemes – ACABC, PGDAEM; Cafeteria of activities – Detailed break-up, Discussion & interaction; Functions of ATMs; Farmers Friend, Group Approaches CIG, FIG, FSG – Formation and Functions, Farm school and its activities, Discussion & interaction Modalities of Public Private Partnership, Innovative activities, Best Practices and Success Stories Funding Pattern, ICT/IDT, KCC etc.
The training also included a field trip to pineapple farm school in Molvum village under Medziphema block, where there was interaction with the farm school teacher, Veikhochong.
The valedictory function was chaired by Tiajungla Longchar, DPD SAMETI, while feedback on the training was given by Zulutoshi Ozukum, ATM Tuensang and Elomkala Phom, ATM, Kiphire.
Director SAMETI, Dr. I. Amenla in her valedictory address congratulated the participants on being the first batch to be trained on the topic of NMAET. She stated that there was added responsibility on their part as there are four sub-missions under NMAET for which their services as Extension workers is vital.
Amenla also encouraged them to be the voice of the farmers and do justice to the department by delegating duties sincerely so that vision 2025, Food for All, will become a reality.
Certificates were distributed to the participants by Dr. Watimongla Jamir, Vice Principal & in charge, Agri.-Chemistry Lab IETC.
The training saw a good turnout of participants from all districts of the State, according to the release.
