Dimapur, November 27 (MExN): ATMA Dimapur Kuhuboto Block conducted ‘Within District Farmers Training’ on November 24 at District Sericulture Office Dimapur.
The programme was chaired by Akavi Holo, BTM (ATMA), Kuhuboto Block and Resources persons were Mikato, ATM Aqhunaqa Block and Aketoli, ATM, Aghunaqa Block.
Aketoli highlighted on the importance of organic farming where she described organic farming as the production of crops and livestock without the use of synthetic chemicals and inorganic fertilizers. She also elaborated on the benefits and techniques in organic farming. She concluded her topic by sharing some of the successful stories of farmers who practised organic farming in Nagaland.
Mikato began his topic with an introduction on dragon fruit which is commonly known as pitaya. He illustrated on the nutritive value of dragon fruit which is rich in antioxidants, Contain Vitamin C, Calcium and Phosphorus. He also elaborated on the medicinal value and varieties of dragon fruit. He also emphasized on the propagation by seeds or stem cutting. Dragon fruit can be consumed fresh and also it can be processed into numerous products such as jellies, jam, cosmetics products etc.
